Kalkan is a former Greek fishing village on a steep hillside above a small harbour, between Fethiye and Kaş. It is known for upmarket villas with private infinity pools, rooftop restaurants and a quieter, more grown-up atmosphere than the bigger resorts. Most of the accommodation is villas and small hotels rather than large resorts.

Areas in and around Kalkan
- Old town and harbour: cobbled lanes, restaurants and bars, walkable but very steep.
- Kışla and Kalamar: hillsides and coves on the way west, with villas and some hotels with sea platforms.
- Kördere and Kızıltaş: higher up, with wide sea views and many villas; you will need a car or taxi.
- İslamlar and Bezirgan: mountain villages above Kalkan, cooler in summer and known for trout restaurants.
Beaches
Kalkan has a small town beach, but most swimming is from beach clubs and hotel platforms built over the rocks. For sand, Patara beach (about 20 minutes away) is one of Turkey’s longest beaches, a protected nesting site for loggerhead turtles, next to the ruins of ancient Patara. Kaputaş cove is about 15 minutes towards Kaş.
Seasons
Late May to mid-October is the main season; July and August are hot and busy. Spring and autumn are perfect for walking parts of the Lycian Way and visiting ancient sites such as Xanthos and Letoon.
Getting there
Dalaman Airport (DLM) is about 1.5 hours by car. Antalya (AYT) is about 3.5 hours. Villa owners and hotels usually arrange transfers; a rental car is useful for exploring.
Booking tips
- Check the walking distance and gradient to town; “10 minutes to town” can mean a steep climb back.
- Ask whether the pool is heated if travelling in spring or autumn.
- Check what is included in villa prices: cleaning, linen changes, air conditioning.
