The Çeşme peninsula, an hour west of İzmir, is where Turkey’s Aegean summer is at its most stylish. Alaçatı’s stone houses, blue shutters and bougainvillea-covered lanes are full of small hotels, restaurants and boutiques; Çeşme town has a castle, a marina and ferries to Chios; and the coast between them has some of the clearest water in the Aegean. This guide helps you choose where to stay and lists boutique hotels in each area from the Triplisty directory.
The areas compared
| Area | Atmosphere | Best for |

Alaçatı: stone houses and boutique hotels
Most boutique hotels on the peninsula are in Alaçatı, many in restored Greek-era stone houses with courtyards and small pools. Hacımemiş, the old quarter around Kemalpaşa Caddesi, is the busiest part, with restaurants and bars open late in summer; streets a little further from the centre are quieter. Rooms are often small and characterful, and breakfast with local cheeses, olives, herbs and jams is a highlight.

Ilıca, Çeşme town and the quieter bays
Ilıca has the peninsula’s best-known sandy beach, with shallow water and natural thermal springs that feed several hotels. Çeşme town is practical for ferries and has a pleasant marina promenade. Dalyan, Çiftlik and the bays further south are good for a slower pace.

When to go
- June and September are ideal: warm sea, fewer crowds, lower prices.
- July and August are peak season. Alaçatı is very busy, especially at weekends when İzmir and Istanbul visitors arrive; book well ahead.
- Spring brings the Alaçatı Herb Festival (usually April), when the town celebrates its wild herbs.
- Many small hotels close between November and March.
The wind
Alaçatı is famous for its steady northern wind (the meltem), which makes it one of Europe’s best windsurfing spots. It also means some beaches on the north and west sides can be breezy. For calm swimming, the bays on the southern side and Ilıca in the morning are usually better.
Getting there
- İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is about 80–90 km away, around an hour by car.
- Havaş buses run from the airport to Çeşme in summer; many hotels arrange transfers.
- A car is useful for exploring the bays, though parking in Alaçatı is difficult in summer.
- Ferries connect Çeşme with the Greek island of Chios.
Tips for booking a boutique hotel here
- Ask whether children are accepted; some boutique hotels are adults-only.
- Check minimum stays in July and August.
- Ask about parking if you are driving.
- In the old town, rooms facing the street can be noisy until late.
Listing details come from the hotels’ own published information. Confirm rates and availability directly with each hotel.
