The Bodrum peninsula is Turkey’s best-known upscale summer destination, with a string of bays each with its own personality: superyacht marinas, beach clubs, quiet coves and whitewashed villages. Luxury hotels here range from big full-service resorts to small design hotels on the water. The most important decision is which bay to stay in, because getting around the peninsula in summer traffic can take time.
The main areas
- Yalıkavak (north-west): a large marina for superyachts, upscale shopping and restaurants, windmills on the hills. Glamorous and busy in peak summer.
- Türkbükü (Göltürkbükü) (north): known for its social scene, wooden beach platforms and beach clubs. Expensive and lively in July and August.
- Torba and Cennet Koyu (north-east): sheltered bays closest to the airport, calmer water, several large resorts. Good for families.
- Gündoğan (north): a more relaxed village bay with some boutique hotels.
- Bitez and Gümbet (south): sandy beaches, windsurfing in Bitez, more mid-range hotels.
- Bodrum town: the castle, marina, old town and nightlife. Best if you want to walk to restaurants.
Beach platforms vs sandy beaches
Many luxury hotels on the northern bays have wooden platforms (iskele) over the water instead of wide sandy beaches, because the coast is rocky and the water deepens quickly. This makes for wonderful swimming in clear water, but if you want sand for small children, look at Bitez, Ortakent or Torba-area hotels with sandy beaches.

- Late May–June and September–early October: warm sea, lower prices, easier traffic.
- July–August: peak season with the highest prices and busiest beach clubs.
- Many hotels close from November to April.
Getting there
Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is about 35–60 minutes from most bays, depending on the location and traffic; Torba is the closest, Yalıkavak and Türkbükü further. Most luxury hotels arrange transfers. Ferries connect Bodrum with Kos and other Greek islands.
Booking tips
- Ask whether the hotel has a sandy beach or a platform.
- Check what is included: many luxury hotels are not all-inclusive, and beach club or sunbed fees can be extra elsewhere on the peninsula.
- For summer weekends, book restaurants in Yalıkavak and Türkbükü well in advance.
- A car or private driver is useful for exploring different bays.
